Turquoise Bay drift snorkel
📍 Turquoise BayThe famous drift — enter up-current and let the lagoon carry you over the coral.
This is the signature Ningaloo snorkel: wade in at the southern end of the bay, then let the gentle northbound current carry you out over a garden of coral bommies swarming with fish, with a good chance of turtles and rays. When you near the sandy point you fin to shore, walk back along the beach, and do it all again.
The drift makes it almost effortless — you cover a lot of reef without hard swimming — but the same current is why timing and awareness matter. Always exit before the sandy point: past it the channel current strengthens and can sweep you toward the outer reef.
How it works
- Shore entry off the white-sand beach; mask, snorkel and fins. No tour needed.
- Beginner-friendly as a drift, but you must be comfortable in moving water.
