SUP & kayaking
Glide over the sheltered lagoon on a calm morning — and follow the kayak trail to snorkel moorings out on the reef.
Bill’s Bay’s calm, protected lagoon is made for an easy paddle, and the best of it is in the glass-off of early morning before the sea breeze fills in. Cruise the seagrass and reef edges and you will often spot turtles and rays below the board.
For more, Coral Bay has one of Ningaloo Marine Park’s kayak trails: numbered moorings 300 m to about 1.8 km off the beach, all in the no-take Maud Sanctuary Zone, where you tie up and snorkel a patch of reef you would otherwise need a boat for. Hire kayaks and SUPs in town, or join a guided paddle-and-snorkel.
When to go
Year-round; best on calm mornings, and on a higher tide for the reef moorings (optimal Apr–Nov).
