Wildlife encountersAbout 500 m south of Bill’s Bay, a gentle northbound current sets up the classic Coral Bay drift. You walk south along the shore, get in near the five-knot marker, swim out to the reef, and let the current carry you slowly back north over dense coral bommies thick with fish.
It is almost effortless once you are in — you cover a lot of reef without hard swimming — but it puts you near the boat channel, so stay well inside the markers and time it for calm conditions and a mid-to-high tide.
Best conditions: Calm; mid–high tide
How it works
- Shore entry near the five-knot sign; mask, snorkel and fins — drift north back to the bay.
