Whales Free

Lighthouse Bay whale watching

📍 Vlamingh Head Lighthouse

The best free shore vantage for humpbacks tracking past the cape.

Between June and November tens of thousands of humpback whales pass Ningaloo on migration, and the high ground at Vlamingh Head is the best free shore vantage on the coast to watch them — breaching and tail-slapping out over Lighthouse Bay.

Bring binoculars and give it time; the elevated lookout lets you scan a wide arc of ocean, and the spring southern migration brings mothers and calves closer in.

How it works

  • Shore-based and free — bring binoculars to the lookout; no booking needed.
