Exmouth’s west-facing coast inside Ningaloo Marine Park catches the Southern Ocean swells that wrap up the coast through the cooler months. The breaks cluster along Yardie Creek Road south of the lighthouse, ranging from gentle sandy beach waves to powerful, hollow reef breaks — so there’s something for most ability levels in a short stretch.
The marquee spot is Dunes (Surfers Beach), the most serious break in the marine park, with a hollow left and a wally right for experienced surfers. Wobiri to the south offers a forgiving sandy inside break for learners, while Hunters and the Lighthouse Bommie round out the lineup for intermediate-to-advanced surfers.
These are remote, unpatrolled beaches reached on dirt tracks, so surfing here is self-reliant — but the reward is uncrowded waves in spectacular surroundings, often shared with turtles just beyond the break.
When to go
Winter swell season — best June–October, with July the standout month.

How it works
- A full range of breaks — Wobiri for beginners, Dunes/Hunters/the Bommie for the experienced.
- Hire foam boards or mini-mals from the Exmouth Surf Centre; surf lessons are currently paused there — ask locally.
- Access is via unsealed tracks off Yardie Creek Road, and the beaches are not patrolled.
