Kitesurfing & wing foiling
Ride glassy turquoise lagoon flats on a reliable afternoon sea breeze — Exmouth is one of WA's premier warm-water kite and wing spots.
Through the warmer half of the year, Exmouth delivers strong, dependable south-westerly sea breezes that build through the afternoon — ideal fuel for kitesurfing and the fast-growing sport of wing foiling. Combined with warm, clear, often-flat water inside the reef, it makes for forgiving freeride conditions in beautiful surroundings.
Sandy Bay, in Cape Range National Park, is rated one of the best flat-water spots in WA, though wind shadows and side-offshore directions make it better for confident riders. Town Beach, closer to town, is the easy, accessible local option and a good place to learn.
Wind direction is everything: the reliable SW sea breezes blow in the afternoons, while morning easterly land breezes suit Town Beach but are offshore (and dangerous) at west-coast spots — so local knowledge and a lesson pay off before you launch.
When to go
Summer sea-breeze season — October–March, with afternoon SW breezes of 18+ knots (windiest Nov–Jan); the pattern builds from mid-August.

How it works
- Town Beach suits beginners; Sandy Bay is not recommended for beginners.
- Lessons and hire from the Exmouth Surf Centre and local kite operators.
- Sandy Bay is in Cape Range NP (park fees); launch from the western end for cleaner wind.
